Snowtubing

A couple of weeks ago when we were still getting snow and before the rest of the country started getting pounded, we decided to go tubing. That last bit may sound a bit like sour grapes, but we live in Colorado. Henderson got 8". Broke a 40+ year record. We got dusted. Anyway, I digress. A couple of weeks ago we decided to go tubing. We did invited some friends, but no one took us up on the offer. We went up near the Crags campground. It is in a Valley on the western slope of Pikes Peak and the snow is deeper and stays longer than around Woodland Park. There is a small parking area at a trailhead where we intended to stop. It is fun to slalom through the trees down the trail. There must have been a couple of snowshoeing clubs that day, because there were more cars there than I have seen any time of year and people standing in groups holding snowshoes and chatting. So we pressed on. The road isn't plowed beyond this point, so we don't have to worry about many people. We drove farther in to another trail head and found a line through the trees to the parking area and a small meadow area across the road. We decided to stay here and tube. Other than one incident where Heber decided to veer off the trail and stuff himself under a pickup (the owner witnessed the event and kindly decided to park on the other side of us), we had a ball. The run worked well and the kids were enjoying themselves. We didn't have our video camera (we left it in NV on our Independence Day trip) but we used our picture camera to take pictures and some video. When I got home, I dinked around with the video editing software on our new computer and created the following video of our adventures that day (I think it was December 13). Enjoy.
